Catherine Bihm, Consenting Supervisor, Ovation Fertility
Catherine Bihm, Consenting Supervisor Catherine started out handling patient consents and scheduling in the Baton Rouge lab. When Cassie Miller, director of risk management, needed assistance with consents at other locations, she asked Catherine to become the consenting supervisor for a new team at Ovation® Fertility.
How did you get into your line of work?
I worked as a nurse in the surgery/trauma unit right out of college. I was also the director of audits for a medical coding company for 10 years.
Tricia Adams, lab manager of the Baton Rouge and Lafayette location, informed me about an open position as the patient service coordinator. I thought that with my medical and administrative background, this would be a perfect fit. So, I hit the books and learned as much as I could about the IVF process. I got the job and haven’t stopped learning since!
What has your career path been like at Ovation?
I started as a patient service coordinator in Baton Rouge. In that role, I worked on consents, scheduling and shipping. When Ovation decided to start sending consents electronically, I began working with Cassie by configuring consents in SignNow and EngagedMD. There came to be a need for someone to monitor consents across all Ovation labs, and I was offered the position of consenting supervisor. I am thankful to be a part of the Ovation team, and I am looking forward to the growth and knowledge this may bring!
What’s an average day like for you?
I typically start my day by answering emails from our patients, labs and clinics. I send consents for multiple locations and monitor the upcoming schedules to ensure all consents are complete. I schedule calls with patients to review the consents in greater detail when necessary. I attend meetings with the consenting team or with clinics and labs to discuss and improve workflow and communication. Currently, I am also facilitating the translation of our consent forms into French and German.
What’s your favorite part of working for Ovation?
The people I work with are my favorite part! I love working for a company where everyone takes so much pride in their work and genuinely wants to help each other succeed. Everyone is so kind, and the team we have is like no other.
I would like to thank the Baton Rouge and Lafayette team for being amazing, teaching me and always pushing me to be better than I was yesterday; and Cassie Miller for putting her faith in me and always being willing to help and share her knowledge.
What do you like to do outside of work?
My favorite thing to do outside of work is to spend time with my husband and kids. I have three boys ages 8, 11 and 13 who keep me busy. My kids and I do Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in our spare time. When I’m not running the roads or helping with homework, I love to cook and bake.
