Meet Emily Taillon, Medical Coordinator, Center for Surrogate Parenting
Emily Taillon instantly came to mind when we asked Daniel Madero, director of third party services, to pick a Department VIP for the Center for Surrogate Parenting, an Ovation® company. He praised Emily’s work ethic, as she’s always proactively taking on new projects and working to learn new things.
How did you get into your line of work?
CSP was my first position in the world of third party reproduction, but I’ve been working with medical records for over a decade. I started my career in medical records with a hospital in 2005. I spent about 10 years there before I started working for a legal nurse consultant to review medical records for attorneys. In this role, I was working from home, and I really missed interacting with people, so when I saw an open position at CSP/Ovation, I jumped at the chance to apply.
I’ve been with CSP since November 2019, and it’s been a wonderful experience. I work with amazing people and get to learn something new every day.
What’s an average day like for you?
My day consists of records, records and more records. My job is to work with surrogates who are going through the screening process. I also work with the surrogate case managers and my supervisors to make sure everything goes smoothly as we review and vet each candidate. It’s cool knowing that my work helps get awesome surrogates through our doors and ready to start helping intended parents create their families.
What’s your favorite part of working for CSP/Ovation?
There are so many things I love about my job and working with the team. I really enjoy learning from my teammates, especially my director Daniel, my supervisors Marge and Suzanne , and the surrogate case managers Carole, Melissa and Julie. I’m a sponge, so I try to soak in all the knowledge from those who have been here for years and decades. I’m also very grateful that my team respects my opinion about how to make things better or run more smoothly. It’s a very collaborative environment.
The other thing I love is hearing about the successful surrogacy journeys and stories. It’s rewarding to hear that a baby was born with help from a surrogate that I worked with when she was first getting started at CSP.
Do you have a favorite memory from your role?
I’d say learning that the first person I ever screened was able to deliver a healthy baby. It was so incredible. Recently, I’ve also seen more women who came to CSP when I first started who are coming back now to be a surrogate again. It’s great to see them again and catch up.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy playing pool. I’m not in a league right now, but I have been in the past and would love to do it again. I also like to relax with a good book and spend time with my soon-to-be 21-year-old daughter.
Family is very important to me, and I personally understand building a family in a “non-traditional” way. I come from a family of six children, and four of us were adopted. We were really a melting pot of a family, so I think it’s beautiful to create a family in a different way.
