Meet the Department VIP – Olimpia Sabol, RN, BSN, Fertility Sales Manager
Meet Olimpia Sabol, RN, BSN, Fertility Sales Manager
Olimpia Sabol joined the Ovation team in September 2022, and has spent most of her working days since then in the field, spreading the news about our integrated fertility care services and supporting existing network practices.
How did you get into your line of work?
I’ve worked in women’s health since I started my career. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a part of the miracle of life. When I was about 17, my aunt went through IVF and had twins. I was completely fascinated, and at the time thought I may want to be a midwife.
I started my nursing career in 1996, became a labor and delivery nurse in 1997 and went into IVF in 2002. I loved every minute, but I was attracted to the idea of staying in reproductive medicine as a sales representative. In 2009, I joined Mandell’s fertility pharmacy, and I transitioned into genetics at Sequenom in 2013. Shortly after, I was invited to Good Start Genetics, which was later acquired by Invitae in 2017. One year ago, they dissolved their IVF services, so I was elated to learn that Ovation was expanding their sales team. I had the honor to join our director, Debbie Wells, and my colleagues Sherri Saunders and Christie Zingoni.
I consider myself more of a nurse educator than a salesperson. I never take off my nursing hat, and I’m still a patient advocate. I share everything that I have learned to help fertility centers provide the best patient care they can. I’m privileged to offer the technology and resources that we have available here at Ovation, and what sets us apart from others.
What’s an average day like for you?
My primary goal is to work toward onboarding new accounts, while maintaining current customers, and reaching out to potential new contacts to build our client base. I cover the East Coast and some of the inner states, which typically involves travel. My preference is to meet with providers and decision-makers in person, to build strong relationships and spend time together focusing on how we can improve patient outcomes. This includes in-depth and often multiple discussions about our genetic testing platforms and ancillary offerings.
It is important to me that every team member involved with patient care is educated and supported, and that I am bringing value and making a difference. I want my accounts to know they are a priority, and that I will follow up and follow through both proactively and reactively when needed. It is my way of giving back, since I am not providing the hands-on patient care.
Another role of the sales team is to proudly represent Ovation at national, regional and local society meetings and conferences. We are professional networkers, and it is a pleasure to have the opportunity to continue sharing the Ovation mission often with new providers, lab directors, embryologists, nurses, practice managers, etc.
What’s your favorite part of working for Ovation?
I am fortunate to be part of a small but amazing team. We may be separated in the field, but we still have each other to work through issues and challenges, and to celebrate successes with. They are my work family, and we are here for each other, both professionally and personally. We also have the internal support of operations and so many others within Ovation. It’s fulfilling to partner with a practice, but it truly is teamwork, and I appreciate everyone.
Why is Ovation’s work so important?
The services we provide are helping patients on a journey they most likely did not plan for. Our genetic testing increases their chances of having a successful pregnancy by identifying embryos that are chromosomally normal or not affected by certain conditions or imbalances. Donor eggs and gestational carrier services assist in making their dreams of starting a family come true by alternate means. We also offer the option to keep their cryopreserved samples safe and sound. It’s rewarding to be a part of helping patients in so many ways.
What do you like to do outside of work?
My husband, Mike, and I have been married for 22 years, and we have three daughters. Julia is 21 and a senior at Florida State, majoring in public health; Vanessa is 19, transferring to Florida State and majoring in sports management; and Gabriella is 15, a sophomore in high school. They have always had a working mom, and setting a good example for them to be successful and independent in their future is important to me.
The beach is my serenity and favorite place to be. I enjoy travel, being outdoors, exercise and country music. I was most excited that our home office is so close to Nashville! Thank you for the opportunity to represent Ovation and to share my passion for reproductive health. I honestly would not have chosen a different path or profession.
