Bruce Shapiro, MD, Founded Las Vegas’ First Infertility Practice

First recruited to establish the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology for the University of Nevada School of Medicine, Dr. Bruce Shapiro concurrently founded the city’s first infertility practice, The Fertility Center of Las Vegas, Henderson, Los Angeles. More than 20 years later, The Fertility Center of Las Vegas, Henderson, Los Angeles has earned the worldwide respect of colleagues and the deep gratitude of patients.

Dr. Bruce Shapiro is specialty board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and subspecialty board certified in reproductive endocrinology. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Amsterdam, Holland.

Professional Achievements and Memberships

A dedicated clinician and researcher, Dr. Shapiro is a high-complexity laboratory director (HCLD) and inspector for the College of American Pathologists (CAP). He is an active and prominent member of select medical societies such as:

Dr. Shapiro also served as the program director for the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society (PCRS) and was two-time first-place prize recipient for research by PCRS. He also was honored with the Practicing Physicians Award.

In addition, he received the Outstanding Professor Award from the University of Nevada School of Medicine, where he remains on faculty as head of the Division of Reproductive Medicine.

Research Areas and Special Interests in Reproductive Medicine

Dr. Shapiro has presented and published papers in esteemed medical journals and is a peer reviewer for Fertility & Sterility; Human Reproduction, Obstetrics & Gynecology; American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology; Journal of Assisted Reproduction & Genetics; Journal of In Vitro Fertilization & Embryo Transfer; Journal of Reproductive Medicine; and Reproduction Fertility & Development.

Dr. Shapiro has dedicated more than two decades of scientific research to improving the safety and success rates of fertility treatments. His findings have reduced the incidence of side effects following ovarian stimulation, improved embryo transfer techniques, and increased successful implantation rates, allowing more efficient and effective embryo transfers. This has resulted in better safety and success through solid science, ultimately leading to some of the highest reported birth rates in the United States. In addition, he has participated in the development of proprietary cell mediums used for high-tech infertility procedures, and has served as a media expert on these topics.
