Don Royster, MD, Is an Award-Winning California IVF Specialist
A Los Angeles native, Don Royster, MD, practices at the Southern California Center for Reproductive Medicine. A highly regarded California IVF specialist, he holds double board certifications in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI).
Dr. Royster joined SCCRM after serving for more than 20 years on active duty in the United States Air Force, from which he retired with the rank of Colonel. He was named Officer of the Year several times and received an early “below the zone” promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His final active duty assignment was to serve as San Antonio Military Medical Center’s IVF director, medical director and chief of REI.
Dr. Royster earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil and environmental engineering at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, prior to obtaining his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. Before becoming a California IVF specialist, he completed an OB/GYN residency at San Antonio Military Medical Center and REI clinical fellowship training at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland.
At David Grant Medical Center, Travis Air Force Base, in Vacaville, California, Dr. Royster served as medical director and then chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology, before pursuing specialized fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda. Dr. Royster has delivered more than 1,000 babies with deployments and humanitarian missions all over the world, and has performed more than 5,000 surgeries.
In addition to earning accolades including outstanding resident and outstanding medical student during his training, Dr. Royster was named Air Mobility Command Doctor of the Year in 2011 and Bioenvironmental Engineer of the Year in 1998.
Dozens of Dr. Royster’s science and clinical research papers have been published in peer-reviewed journals, and his research has won numerous awards from peer organizations, including the Armed Forces District Annual Meeting for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society. He also holds a U.S. patent for a field medical device and he has been invited to present at numerous national and international conferences.
