What’s New in Ovation Genetics April 2023

With the increased awareness and proven benefits of preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), Ovation® Genetics has kept pace by expanding our testing capacity as well as our service options.

One of our latest offerings is simultaneous PGT-A+ and PGT-P. Previously available only as sequential tests, simultaneous PGT-A+/P decreases the turnaround time significantly.
Here’s why:

Amy Jones Sequential PGT-A+/P:

  • Requisition for PGT-A+/P sequential received
  • Biopsy samples are received, processed and reported for PGT-A – 10-12 days
  • Patient is contacted to confirm PGT-A+/P testing
  • Patient pays for PGT-A+/P testing and is sent saliva kits – 2-3 days
  • Saliva kits are collected and shipped – 1-2 days
  • DNA is extracted from saliva kits and PGTA+/P processing begins – 10-12 days
  • Totaling 25-30 days

Simultaneous PGT-A+/P:

  • Requisition for PGT-A+/P simultaneous received
  • Patient pays for PGT-A+/P testing and is sent saliva kits
  • Saliva kits are collected and shipped
  • DNA is extracted from saliva kits
  • Biopsy samples are received, processed and reported for PGT-A
  • Simultaneously, DNA is extracted from saliva kits and PGTA+/P processing begins
  • Totaling 10-12 days

To achieve this, our referring physician practices will store saliva kits on-site and collect a saliva sample at the time of egg retrieval. Then, the kits are shipped along with the biopsy samples. Fees for the combined tests are non-refundable, so patients cannot change their minds about the testing once they have committed.

The LifeView Difference
We’ve seen great success with our expanded LifeViewTM testing options. Here’s a summary of the tests we can now provide through LifeView, and how they are different and deliver greater benefits for patients.

PGT-A – Can detect female triploidy, haploidy and UPD. Haploidy and UPD detection are new to Ovation clients. Results will be reported as “Abnormal,” “X” for sex, and “Haploid” or “UPD” in notes.

PGT-SR – Can distinguish normal results from carrier status. Saliva kit collection is required, and the requisition should have the karyotype attached.

PGT-A+ – This test offers maternity/paternity confirmation prior to embryo transfer, thus serving as a genetic witness. Additionally, it can determine the origin of aneuploidy – egg, sperm or embryo. If a patient is reluctant to transition to donor eggs, this test provides support for these conversations by confirming where the aneuploidy originates.

PGT-P – This test can identify an embryo’s lifetime risk of developing certain polygenic conditions and is intended to be used as another tool for embryo selection. All couples may benefit from PGT-P, but specifically infertility couples as data suggest that they have an increased risk of cancer, diabetes and heart disease (Cedars et al, 2017)*.

Future Offerings – Other advanced services are currently in the development pipeline. Coming soon is pre-test PGT-M process counseling, offered by Ovation at the time of requisition receipt. This counseling is intended to educate patients about the IVF and PGT-M process, setting expectations for the timing of testing and the average number of samples tested in different age groups.

Different from the counseling performed by Cooper and Genomic Prediction, this counseling will help patients make informed decisions about whether genetic testing is right for them and will provide peace of mind as they move through the testing process.
