Ovation Fertility, a national network of reproductive endocrinologists and scientific thought leaders, will present new fertility research at the 2018 AAB Education Conference and CRB Symposium in Orlando, Florida, on May 17-19. The three abstracts accepted for oral and poster presentations are the result of collaborative research involving nine scientists at Ovation Fertility’s six IVF labs nationwide. In addition to these presentations, Ovation Fertility’s Newport Beach IVF Laboratory Director Mitchel C. Schiewe, Ph.D., will present an invited lecture on May 19 on the topic of “Reproductive Tourism: Reproductive Exile or an Insemination Vacation.”

New Fertility Research on IVF Cost, IVF Processes, Egg Freezing
In addition to Schiewe’s presentation on reproductive tourism, the three abstracts accepted for presentation at the conference summarize new fertility research that has the potential to reduce the cost and improve the effectiveness of in vitro fertilization and associated procedures, such as egg freezing.
- Poster presentation: Potential Laboratory Cost Savings for a Blastocyst Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS) Vitrification (VTF) Program. This study aimed to critically evaluate the cost benefits of a clinically proven non-commercial, aseptic closed VTF system to other commonly used open/hybrid VTF devices, and discuss the importance of cost savings in today’s assisted reproductive technology (ART) industry.
- Oral presentation: Oocyte Cryopreservation: microSecure Vitrification (µS-VTF) No Worse Than the Rest, But Is It an Experimental Procedure? Despite ASRM classifying oocyte cryopreservation as “non-experimental” in 2012, little progress has been made to understand developmental inconsistencies associated with some egg batches. This study’s aim was to compare developmental incompetence of oocytes vitrified by µS-VTF in a DMSO-free solution to other conventional open VTF/EG-DMSO systems.
- Oral presentation: Validation of a Universal Warming/Dilution Protocol for Frozen Embryo Transfers Independent of Vitrification Device/Cryoprotectant. This study aimed to validate a universal warming/dilution approach for all vitrification (VTF) solutions associated with various device systems.
