Iris Ortiz, Administrative Assistant, Ovation Fertility Austin
Iris Ortiz has been with the Austin team since July 2008, back in the days when it was Austin IVF.
She has a wealth of experience managing the front office and credits her big heart and organizational skills with helping her keep everything running smoothly in Austin.
How did you start working at Ovation Austin?
I started out at the front desk of Ovation Austin in July 2008. Back then, it was Austin IVF, and I’ve loved watching it grow and change to become Ovation Austin. I’ve been an administrative assistant here for 13 years now, and I plan to continue growing along with Ovation Fertility.
What is an average day like for you at Ovation Austin?
My job is to basically hold down the fort in the front office in Austin, so I’m doing a lot of different things in one day. A big part of my job is assisting and checking in patients who visit the lab. I also stay busy answering phone calls and emails that come in. I find it so rewarding to interact with and help patients.
Assisting my coworkers is another important part of my work. From getting the patient charts for the next day’s cycles to making sure that the embryologists and andrologists have all the information they need to do their jobs, I’m the go-to person in the front office.
I have a lot of responsibilities in my role, but I like staying busy and being a team player to help our patients have healthy babies. When interruptions or challenges pop up during my day, I always find a way to still get everything done. I think being a very organized person helps with that. I keep a lot of lists and just check things off as I go to keep it all straight.
What’s your favorite part of working for Ovation?
I’d have to say that my favorite part is being able to be a helper. I have a big heart, so I love assisting everyone from patients to my coworkers. It’s very fulfilling to be that go-to person and have the answer that someone is looking for. It’s a good feeling knowing that I made someone’s day a little easier.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I’m the proud mom of three beautiful daughters, so we spend a lot of time together and with other family members. My kids are picky eaters, but I still love cooking, even if I have to make a few different meals.
I also really like working out at the gym and spending time outside. This summer was really nice, so we spent a lot of time at the pool.
If you weren’t an administrative assistant, what would you be doing?
I really like to help people and keep things organized and streamlined, so I think I would either be a corporate event planner or an interior decorator.
